Changing a water pump on a Subaru ej255, had a bolt break on me while tightening up prior to torquing to spec. It was protruding maybe 1.5mm. I started with trying to get it with a variety pliers/vice grips with no luck. Moved on to left-hand drill bit. I can get a screw extractor to bite but haven’t got any movement.
